Transforming Almond Milk Into Ice Cubes For Easy Coffee Additions

The freezer serves as your greatest ally in minimizing food waste — this rule extends to beverages as well. If you’re unable to finish a carton of almond milk prior to it spoiling, the most suitable approach is to freeze the non-dairy delight in an ice cube tray. This method will aid in preserving the almond milk, allowing you to utilize the ice cubes in upcoming beverages, whether it’s a cube or two in your daily iced coffee or a handful in a weekly non-dairy frappe. As an additional benefit, any beverage that includes the almond milk ice cubes will receive a chill and a hint of almond milk, rather than being diluted with water like conventional ice cubes.

This tip will be effective with all types of almond milk, from the best to the least favorable available at your local grocery store. However, if you opt to create your own almond milk, ensure to steer clear of frequent errors, such as insufficiently straining the mixture, which could compromise the final outcome and consequently impact the quality of your ice cubes. Regardless, make sure to verify that your almond milk hasn’t spoiled before preparing a full batch of ice cubes. Some settling is typical, so you’ll want to shake your almond milk adequately before pouring it into your ice cube trays, and be attentive to any clumps or unusual smells, as these can indicate that your almond milk has already gone bad.

Ideal almond milk ice cubes, every time

Although there’s nothing amiss with simply pouring standard almond milk into ice cube trays and calling it a day, don’t overlook the chance to infuse your flavors creatively. For starters, if you possess unsweetened almond milk and know you’d prefer a touch of sweetness in your icy coffee drinks, contemplate adding a dash of honey, maple syrup, or even vanilla coffee syrup. As long as you mix it well to ensure it’s uniformly distributed throughout the almond milk, you will have some enhanced ice cubes ready for your drink. Alternatively, if you’re seeking extra flavor without the sweetness, consider incorporating ingredients like cinnamon or vanilla extract.

If your ice cube trays lack lids or coverings, it’s advisable to use plastic wrap or some other cover during freezing to prevent your almond milk ice cubes from absorbing any unwanted odors or flavors from your freezer. Resist the urge to fill each compartment to the brim — leaving a small gap will provide your almond milk with room to expand as it freezes, and it will also reduce the likelihood of spillage while settling it in your freezer. Lastly, to guarantee your almond milk ice cubes stay high quality for as long as you require them, transfer the fully frozen cubes to a container that can withstand freezing for extended storage.
